Over the past month I’ve been using Magic, the text for anything service, more extensively. Being able to fire off job requests and get them easily outsourced is a service I’ve always wanted to exist — so badly so that several years go I started Exec to do exactly that. Magic improves on Exec: it still uses human operators to do your task, but they are in a call center and outsource to other companies for real world operations, solving some of the problems we had around how to maximize utilization when your operators have to be in the real world.

Now that I’ve used Magic for a while, I wanted to share some of the more interesting things I’ve gotten the service to do. A fairly simple one: some of my friends and I were making a DJ set of trap music for a party, and wanted some more songs:

That was pretty cool. A few weeks ago I wanted to change my flight, but Virgin America wouldn’t let me do it from my phone’s browser. I also needed to get to the airport in time!

Having Magic text me my new boarding pass was a plus.

I was in the market for another motorcycle. Initially I wanted to try a Harley Night Rod, and Magic found me a place to test ride. After riding the Harley, I changed my mind and wanted to go with a Ducati Monster Diesel instead — unfortunately, the bike was only made for 2 years and is now discontinued, and I was unable to find it anywhere online myself.

I got the bike and it was in perfect condition! Here’s a picture of it after my first ride down from SF to Mountain View.

Overall I think Magic is especially awesome if you have creative ideas for things you want to get done that you don’t know how to start yourself. My next job: trying to get Magic to buy me a bar.
